Tether Data’s AI research division, QVAC, launched a new vision-language model with 460 million parameters designed to run directly on smartphones rather than relying on cloud infrastructure. The model, VisionPsy-Nano, delivers impressive benchmark results, beating rivals on 16 out of 17 tests and operating significantly faster on mobile devices like the iPhone 15.

Breaking Down the Benchmarks and Performance

VisionPsy-Nano scored a normalized 62.3 across a full set of 17 benchmarks, surpassing Liquid AI’s LFM2.5-VL-450M at 59.6 and Hugging Face’s SmolVLM2-500M at 52.5. This positions Tether’s model as the top performer among vision-language systems under 500 million parameters. Two versions are available: the standard build optimizing for accuracy, and a Flash variant trading a slight dip in quality for blazing speed. Flash outputs initial responses up to 36 times faster on an iPhone 15 compared to the closest competitor, which is a big deal for real-time mobile applications.
