Zcash broke a tough losing streak, climbing back above $500 after seven straight days of declines that marked one of its worst weeks in recent memory. The cryptocurrency fell 8.5% last week, sliding from $517 to $473, with daily red candles dominating every session.
At the time of writing, ZEC was trading around $504, up 3.8% for the day and set to close with its first green candle after a harsh bearish run. This recovery comes as the Zcash network prepares for a key upgrade scheduled for Tuesday, which could reshape its outlook.
Major Network Upgrade Brings Security Fixes and New Features
The upcoming Ironwood upgrade aims to patch a critical vulnerability discovered in the Orchard shielded pool, a privacy-focused part of the network. Developers detected this counterfeiting flaw during internal security analysis, reassuring the community that no fake ZEC coins entered circulation.
The update will replace the existing Orchard shielded pool with a new version, enhancing security and enabling node operators to verify circulating supply more reliably. According to Zcash Open Development Lab, these changes may restore investor confidence and increase demand for ZEC, possibly driving the price higher in the coming days.
While the recent price bounce offers a hint at renewed bullish momentum, the Ironwood upgrade might provide the extra push Zcash needs for a sustained recovery.
Beyond protocol improvements, Zcash is also eyeing expansion into real-world applications. ZecMap, a community-driven directory, indicates that Zcash could soon be accepted for real estate transactions, a move that could broaden its use beyond privacy-focused niches.
