The XRP Ledger has pushed through a key upgrade that requires all nodes to run version 3.2.0 or higher to stay in sync with the network. This change came after the fixCleanup3_2_0 amendment earned strong support from 85.71% of validators, locking out older versions immediately.

Out of 35 trusted validators, 30 voted in favor of this update while five opposed it. The amendment passed the mandatory two-week consensus threshold with ease, signaling broad agreement on its necessity. Nodes still running version 3.1.0 or earlier are now amendment-blocked, meaning they cannot validate transactions or follow the network's updated protocols until upgraded.

What the Update Brings

This upgrade patches several critical issues affecting the XRPL’s vaults, lending functionalities, and permissioned decentralized exchange operations. It also fixes validation problems with Multi-Purpose Tokens, enhancing how token amounts are handled. The core XRP Ledger server software has been renamed from rippled to xrpld in this release, marking a clear shift in the infrastructure.

For businesses and infrastructure operators like exchanges, wallet providers, and payment services, upgrading to version 3.2.0 is now mandatory to avoid disruptions. However, holders using self-custody wallets aren't impacted and don’t need to move their assets.

This update ensures the network's stability and smooth operation as developers fix rounding errors and transaction invariants. It’s a critical step for maintaining security and consistency on the XRPL as it continues to support its decentralized ecosystem.
