Just weeks after the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Gemini sought to undo a settlement over Bitcoin futures claims, the Winklevoss twins quietly shifted a hefty $10 million worth of Bitcoin proceeds to MAGA Inc., the leading super PAC backing former President Donald Trump.
Federal Election Commission records reveal Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss each sold exactly 79.35 BTC, netting over $5 million apiece for the donation. The move came 23 days after the Gemini-CFTC agreement to vacate a $5 million settlement related to accusations that Gemini misled investors about its Bitcoin futures product.
The original settlement had been reached shortly after Trump’s January 2025 inauguration, avoiding what would have been a public jury trial. CFTC Chair Michael Selig has publicly criticized the case, questioning the reliability of the whistleblower evidence and calling the lawsuit misguided, although Gemini won’t get back the penalty it already paid. Selig is currently the lone commissioner at the CFTC, which leaves his views especially influential.
The Winklevoss brothers have deepened their political footprint in recent years. During the 2024 presidential race, they each contributed $1 million directly to Trump’s campaign and collectively funneled $21 million in Bitcoin to the Digital Freedom Fund PAC that supports crypto-friendly candidates.
This recent $10 million infusion ranks them among the top individual funders of MAGA Inc., which has amassed over $400 million for the 2026 midterm elections. Their political donations coincide with Gemini's legal dealings and shed light on the ongoing fusion between cryptocurrency entrepreneurs and Washington politics.
