Publicly traded companies in the United States now hold a staggering 1.24 million Bitcoins, making up nearly 93% of all Bitcoin reserves owned by such companies worldwide. This surge in holdings isn’t a small bump but a major shift, as US firms have added about 510,000 BTC in just the past year.
To put that into perspective, this buying spree by US companies is more than three times the amount of new Bitcoin mined in the same timeframe. Institutional players are snapping up coins faster than they are being created, squeezing the available supply on the market.
MicroStrategy, now known as Strategy, has been a pioneer in this trend, pushing other corporations in sectors like energy, tech, and finance to stash Bitcoin on their balance sheets as a long-term asset.
Analysts warn that if this pace keeps up, especially after the upcoming Bitcoin halving event which will reduce the rate of new coin production, the supply-demand imbalance could intensify. That might tighten the market and potentially influence Bitcoin's price trajectory in the years ahead.
