On July 27, 2026, Truflation, a decentralized platform, reported the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 2.11%, notably lower than the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) official figure of 3.5% for the year ending June.
Truflation gathers between 13 million and 35 million real-time price points daily from over 30 to 70 data providers, updating its inflation index with current consumer spending patterns. Its TruCPI-US figure increased slightly by 0.01% on that day.
The key difference lies in methodology: while the BLS uses a fixed basket of goods with infrequent weighting adjustments, Truflation dynamically updates its CPI weightings annually, reflecting more immediate data from markets in the US, Argentina, and the UK.
Historically, Truflation’s inflation readings tend to precede official BLS releases by 41 to 45 days and consistently report lower inflation rates. This gap has reignited discussions around how inflation is tracked and its real impact.
Founded in 2021 by Stefan Rust with support from Coinbase Ventures, Truflation operates as a DeFi product with its TRUF token enabling governance, staking, and network fees. The platform recently introduced TRUF.Network to enhance data sharing and create prediction markets.
Despite this innovation, the project faced a security breach in 2024, losing about $5 million, as noted by blockchain analyst ZachXBT.
