Why the Bigger Blocks Matter
For the past year, one in every nine Solana blocks hit the 60M-CU ceiling during peak activity. This bottleneck meant transactions often faced congestion, higher fees, or outright failure, especially during high-demand events like NFT launches or DeFi surges. By expanding the compute capacity, Solana offers more breathing room for transactions, reducing the risk of congestion-related failures and potentially easing fee pressure.
However, this does not guarantee consistently lower fees. The larger block size simply widens the pipeline. Whether fees drop depends on network demand, localized congestion, and how efficiently validators can handle the heavier data load. Apps relying on fast, reliable transaction processing like trading UIs or DePIN dashboards stand to benefit the most from this change.

Solana measures workload in compute units, with each instruction consuming a portion.
