Ripple will unlock 1 billion XRP on August 1, translating to roughly $1.08 billion at the current XRP price of $1.08.
This monthly release is part of Ripple’s escrow schedule, which has been in place since 2017, typically unlocking 1 billion tokens on the first day of each month.
Currently, about 62.52 billion XRP tokens circulate in the market. This release would increase the supply by around 1.6%, but Ripple usually locks most of the unlocked tokens back into escrow.
In fact, Ripple often re-locks between 60% and 80% of each batch. This year, an average of 700 million XRP per month has been returned to escrow, leaving only about 300 million XRP flowing into circulation monthly.
At the moment, around 32.44 billion XRP remains locked in escrow, valued at approximately $34.72 billion, according to data from XRPSCAN.
The market has generally shrugged off these scheduled releases, as they follow a predictable pattern introduced years ago. Past monthly unlocks have not caused significant price swings.
XRP’s price trajectory this year is more influenced by broader crypto market trends, regulatory updates, and Bitcoin’s movements. One key factor is the upcoming vote on the U.S. CLARITY Act, which some analysts believe could push XRP’s price to between $1.15 and $1.25 shortly after the decision.
Coinbase’s recent BTC treasury increase highlights how market shifts in Bitcoin can also ripple through altcoins like XRP.
