Red Cat Holdings' shares jumped over 9% to $7.39 after the company’s subsidiary, Teal Drones, landed a $2.49 million contract with the U.S. Air Force. The deal involves supplying Black Widow drone systems, along with training, spare parts, batteries, and shipping support for testing purposes.
The Air Force Security Forces have taken on the task of evaluating the Black Widow as a potential replacement for the current Teal 2 drone fleet. This contract specifically covers the provision of systems and training to personnel who will in turn train others, with delivery expected by August 24, 2026. While the deal only funds assessment units and related services, a successful test could lead to a wider adoption across the Air Force fleet.
Expanding Defense Reach with Domestic Drone Tech
Black Widow is already recognized as the U.S. Army’s chosen platform for short-range reconnaissance missions, enhancing Red Cat’s foothold in the domestic defense drone market. Its compact design offers swift deployment and real-time intelligence support for field units during security operations. The new Air Force contract adds momentum to Red Cat’s growing presence across different military branches.
Building their systems in the U.S. helps Red Cat meet government demands for reducing reliance on foreign suppliers, a factor increasingly prioritized in defense procurement. The contract underlines Red Cat’s expanding role in supplying advanced reconnaissance drones to federal agencies.
