On July 27, Paradigm, a major crypto venture firm, sent a detailed comment letter to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This marks their second input in just three months, showing the high stakes for crypto investors in how prediction markets are regulated.
The CFTC's latest proposal, made public on June 12, sets out a 90-day formal review process for event contracts. These contracts are bets on real-world outcomes and have seen rapid growth, with platforms like Kalshi reporting billions in trading volume.
The rule seeks to clarify when certain contracts cross into "gaming" territory, a key distinction determining if contracts are allowed under existing law. It also insists on public interest assessments before any contract can be approved. Until now, most event contracts have been self-certified by trading platforms, creating legal uncertainty.
Paradigm’s filing goes beyond crypto tokens, focusing on how these contracts fit within the broader derivatives market. Their continued engagement signals that clear, stable rules are essential to support this emerging sector.
A prior staff advisory from March 2026 already set standards for market surveillance and settlement integrity, but this proposal adds layers of structure to bring consistency across platforms.
