World Foundation secured $52.5 million in a recent token sale for its WLD cryptocurrency, with Pantera Capital spearheading the round. All investors agreed to a strict one-year lockup on their tokens, preventing any sales during that period.
This funding will support the expansion of World ID, a system designed to verify human identity without compromising privacy. The platform targets enterprises, consumers, and AI applications needing proof of human presence.
Investors and Strategic Goals
Alongside Pantera, Bain Capital Crypto, Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto, and Eightco Holdings participated in the sale. Eightco Holdings, a Nasdaq-listed treasury company trading as ORBS, already holds a significant portion of WLD tokens. The proceeds have been transferred to the World Foundation, based in the Cayman Islands, which governs the network.
Pantera’s general partner Cosmo Jiang emphasized the growing demand for reliable human verification amid rapid AI advancements, highlighting increased enterprise interest. The World Foundation aims to tackle challenges posed by deepfakes and synthetic identities, which have become problematic across sectors like online dating, digital ads, voting, and video conferencing.
World ID 4.0 offers enterprise-level integration capabilities, enabling developers to issue credentials via zero-knowledge proofs. Companies such as Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder have already integrated this technology.
Despite facing slow consumer uptake and ongoing privacy probes in seven countries, World has now raised nearly $492.5 million in total. This recent round reflects renewed investor confidence, partly fueled by the broader AI enthusiasm.
