On July 24, 2026, World Foundation secured $52.5 million in a locked token sale led by Pantera Capital. The funding aims to enhance its World ID verification tools amid the rapid spread of AI agents and deepfakes online.

Other investors joining the round included Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto. All tokens purchased come with a 12-month lockup, preventing immediate market sell-off and stabilizing token supply.

The foundation plans to focus on embedding World ID into existing platforms, targeting businesses, individual users, and AI agents. This marks a shift from mere network development to practical integration.

According to onchain data, about 217 million WLD tokens were sold at roughly $0.24 each, below the market price near $0.37 at that moment. The foundation, however, described the sale as market-priced and emphasized no equity or profit rights were transferred through these tokens.

World Foundation’s total capital raised now approaches $492.5 million, following a $135 million private sale in May 2025 that involved major players like A16z and Bain Capital Crypto. Eightco Holdings, a significant WLD holder with nearly 8% of circulating supply, is also a key investor.

Cosmo Jiang of Pantera Capital linked the investment directly to the increasing need for reliable human verification as AI technology adoption expands across enterprises. Verifying real humans online becomes critical as AI agents proliferate.

The World ID verification process involves users scanning their iris via a physical Orb device, which converts biometric data into a cryptographically secure code stored on their phones. Apps can confirm verified identities without accessing personal details such as names or locations. The recently released World ID 4.0 enhances these capabilities to better address AI-related challenges.
