OSL Group has opened retail trading for XRP in Hong Kong, marking the first time a Securities and Futures Commission-licensed exchange in the city offers the token to everyday investors. The launch took place on July 29 through OSL Digital Securities, a subsidiary of the Hong Kong-listed company.
Previously, XRP trading on OSL was restricted to professional investors since December 2022. Now retail users can trade XRP against both the US dollar and Hong Kong dollar via the OSL HK platform. The inclusion of XRP/HKD provides a local fiat on-ramp, enhancing accessibility for residents using a regulated virtual asset trading venue.
Deposits and withdrawals are processed directly through the XRP Ledger network, reinforcing OSL’s commitment to efficient blockchain integration. Alongside XRP, retail trading options already include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, broadening the selection under Hong Kong's licensed exchange framework.
OSL Group, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under ticker 863, holds multiple SFC licenses covering Type 1, 4, 7, and 9 activities. It became the city’s first licensed virtual asset exchange in December 2020 and gained permission to serve retail investors in August 2023. This move puts OSL in direct competition with other licensed platforms like HashKey, which also obtained retail licenses around the same time.
By extending XRP trading beyond institutional and high-net-worth individuals, OSL aims to democratize access to digital assets while maintaining solid safeguards. The platform is registered under the Anti-Money Laundering Ordinance and carries $1 billion in client asset insurance, reinforcing investor protections within the regulated framework.
