While major Bitcoin investment products in the U.S. are seeing significant capital outflows, Morgan Stanley’s Bitcoin fund quietly defies the trend. On July 23, the MSBT fund attracted $5 million in fresh investments, contrasting sharply with $225.1 million drained from other Bitcoin-focused ETFs and funds across the market.
Steady Inflows in a Sea of Withdrawals
The day marked a clear divide: top players like BlackRock, Fidelity, Bitwise, Ark Invest, and Franklin Templeton all suffered net withdrawals. BlackRock’s IBIT fund alone lost $202.5 million, representing the bulk of the market’s outflows. Yet Morgan Stanley’s MSBT fund not only avoided losses but registered modest inflows, highlighting a differentiated investor approach.
Since its launch on April 8, 2026, on the NYSE Arca exchange, MSBT has accumulated roughly $431 million in net inflows, according to Farside Investors. In just the week from July 20 to July 23, it gained $15.7 million, managing to weather a market shift after a solid stretch of seven consecutive days with inflows into Bitcoin ETFs. Even on July 24, when most U.S. Bitcoin ETFs continued to bleed $240.1 million, MSBT held steady without any withdrawals.
Why Investors Stick With Morgan Stanley’s Fund
One key factor behind MSBT’s resilience is its annual fee of 0.14%, noticeably lower than competitors like BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity's FBTC, both charging around 0.25%. While the difference might seem small for casual investors, it becomes significant for institutional players and affluent clients looking to hold Bitcoin over the long term.
plus Morgan Stanley leverages its position as a traditional banking powerhouse. Its ability to distribute the fund under its own brand among wealth management clients offers a stable investor base beyond just crypto enthusiasts. This integrated approach provides a buffer against the volatility faced by more niche-focused Bitcoin products.
Not Exactly an ETF
It’s worth noting that Morgan Stanley’s fund is legally classified as an Exchange Traded Product (ETP), not a traditional ETF. The trust underlying the fund directly holds Bitcoin. This structure places it in a unique category that may appeal differently to investors compared to conventional Bitcoin ETFs.
As the Bitcoin landscape continues shifting, Morgan Stanley’s MSBT fund showcases how strategic pricing and trusted distribution can offer a degree of stability in an otherwise turbulent market.
