Kalshi is setting the pace in prediction market trading, capturing nearly 75% of the $3.27 billion volume recorded over the past week. This surge comes despite the broader crypto market struggling, with Bitcoin hovering around $63,482, a 50% drop from its October 2021 peak.
Kalshi’s Explosive Growth Fueled by Sports Betting
Kalshi’s weekly trading volume hit $2.47 billion, dwarfing competitors like Polymarket, which reported just under $500 million. The platform’s dominance was especially pronounced during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, when it reported $27 billion in event-related trades and attracted about 3 million users. In June, Kalshi’s overall monthly volume soared 87%, reaching $31.5 billion, which accounted for roughly 70% of the combined $44.8 billion traded by Kalshi and Polymarket platforms that month.
Polymarket and Others Keep Expanding
Polymarket holds second place with a solid $499 million in weekly volume and a total value locked near $349 million. Its monthly trading climbed 45% in June, generating over $13 billion combined across its international and US platforms. Despite Kalshi's lead, Polymarket continues to grow, driven by a diverse range of prediction topics spanning politics, crypto prices, and cultural events. The CFTC-regulated Polymarket US has processed 3.5 billion contracts since its May launch, signaling strong demand for regulated prediction markets.
While the crypto market remains volatile, prediction markets are drawing increased attention and liquidity, particularly in sports and political event outcomes. These platforms are proving resilient, carving out a niche that blends real-world event speculation with blockchain technology innovations.
