Franklin Templeton declared its support for the CLARITY Act on July 27, joining Blackrock, Fidelity, and Goldman Sachs in pushing for federal legislation to regulate digital assets. The move comes as the Senate prepares to review an updated version of the bill that aims to offer clearer oversight and investor protections in the crypto market.
The CLARITY Act seeks to assign regulatory responsibilities between two federal agencies, creating a more structured framework for digital assets. It also introduces customer safeguards to enhance transparency and security for investors navigating the rapidly evolving crypto landscape.
Wall Street's Unified Front for Crypto Clarity
Franklin Templeton, managing $1.79 trillion in assets as of June 30, emphasized that the bill would provide much-needed clarity to both investors and companies. According to the firm, the legislation sets definitive rules that clarify which federal regulators oversee digital asset operations, reducing uncertainty that has long clouded the industry.
This endorsement aligns Franklin Templeton with other leading financial institutions. Blackrock’s Global Head of Market Development, Samara Cohen, called the bill a vital step to balance innovation with market stability and investor protection. Fidelity Investments, overseeing around $7.1 trillion, also urged senators to approve the measure, highlighting how a consistent national framework could drive responsible innovation.
Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon pointed out the banking sector’s increasing involvement in tokenization, digital custody, and blockchain services, reinforcing the sector's broader interest in shaping clear crypto regulations.
The updated Senate text reflects these priorities by dividing regulatory oversight and creating protections that could benefit investors and companies alike. This coordinated Wall Street support signals a stronger push for full federal crypto legislation as lawmakers consider the bill’s next steps.
