Flare rolled out Smart Accounts version 1.3, cutting down the complexity for XRP holders wanting to tap into DeFi. Instead of juggling multiple wallets and bridging assets manually, users can now mint FXRP and deposit it into yield vaults with just one signature from their existing XRPL wallet.
Before this update, accessing DeFi through XRP required at least two XRPL signatures, managing gas tokens, and switching between chains. Flare Smart Accounts v1.3 streamlines all of that, handling minting and deposits automatically while maintaining XRP’s security through the FXRP 1:1 collateral model.
Behind the scenes, the Flare Data Connector verifies XRPL transactions on Flare’s network, triggering automated smart contract actions tied to the user’s address. This allows XRP holders to earn yield without the hassle of extra wallets or manual bridging.
Since February 2026, the FXRP locked in DeFi nearly doubled, growing by about 75% from 82 million to 144 million FXRP. Currently, more than 40 million XRP is earning yield via Flare Smart Accounts, distributed among nearly 24,000 active accounts. The update also introduces a new Clearstar Flare XRP Yield Vault, expanding users’ options for generating returns.
Filip Koprivec, Flare’s Chief Product Officer, highlights that this move addresses one of the biggest barriers for XRP holders. “Millions wanted DeFi access but found it too complicated. Now, a single signature is enough to start earning, all while users remain in control of their funds.”
