Fanatics is stepping deeper into the prediction markets arena by acquiring BGC Group's regulated exchange and clearinghouse, gaining full control to launch and settle prediction contracts on its own. This move comes as event-driven trading continues to surge in interest across sports, finance, and crypto sectors.

The deal, which includes Water Street Labs and CX Clearinghouse, gives Fanatics the ability to list and clear contracts independently. This means faster rollout of new markets and greater control over its product lineup. Fanatics and BGC also plan to create innovative market data products that blend prediction market insights with traditional financial data, aiming to offer unique analytics to traders.

Prediction markets have become a hotbed of activity recently, driven by platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket the latter leveraging blockchain technology. Crypto companies such as Coinbase have partnered with Kalshi to offer prediction markets nationwide, while Robinhood has started providing event contracts on the same exchange. In this competitive landscape, Fanatics is leveraging its massive sports fanbase to broaden the appeal of prediction markets beyond traditional finance enthusiasts. The company launched its Markets platform in late 2024, which is now accessible in 23 states and four U.S. territories.

Sports betting operators are also eyeing prediction markets. DraftKings announced plans to launch its own platform last year, signaling growing convergence between sports betting and event-based financial products.

This acquisition marks a significant expansion for Fanatics, positioning it alongside key players shaping prediction markets' future. The company’s ability to control its own regulated infrastructure could accelerate innovation and product development within this fast-growing sector.
