ETHGas (GWEI) bounced back impressively after tumbling well below its initial Coinbase listing price of $0.039, with a recent low near $0.019. Instead of continuing the downward trend, buyers returned with force, pushing the token up by 38% to roughly $0.0275 within just 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data. This surge made GWEI one of the top gainers of the day.
Renewed Market Activity and Key Drivers
The spike in GWEI prices coincided with a notable increase in market interest among leveraged traders. AMBCrypto's derivatives overview highlighted that GWEI's Open Interest almost doubled, reaching $14.85 million. This sharp rise signaled an influx of fresh capital into the futures markets, which was quickly reflected in the token's price movement.
Further backing the bullish scenario, Coinalyze data showed that long positions accounted for approximately 57% of total Open Interest on the one-day timeframe. Although this margin isn't extreme, it points to growing confidence following the recent sell-off. The simultaneous rise in Open Interest and token prices suggests that new buyers, rather than short-term profit takers, are fueling the rebound.
Technical Signs of a Potential Bullish Turn
Chart analysis supports the narrative of a recovering market structure for GWEI. The token found firm support around $0.0191 and has reclaimed a significant portion of its losses since then. Momentum indicators, such as the Stochastic RSI, dropped to oversold levels near 18.56 before turning upward, a pattern that historically signals a waning of selling pressure and a return of buyers.
If this upward momentum persists, GWEI could push toward its next resistance at $0.064. However, sustaining sentiment through that level remains a question.
