Ethereum’s price slipped to around $1,889 as the market sentiment turned sharply cautious. The crypto fear and greed index plunged to 25, signaling extreme fear among traders. This tension reflects a broader hesitation in the altcoin space as investors retreat to safer assets like Bitcoin, which currently holds a dominance of 56.4%.
Technical Signs Point to Caution
On the daily chart, Ethereum sits just above its 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages, suggesting some support remains near $1,850. Yet beneath the surface, momentum tells a different story. The MACD indicator recently turned negative, showing the upward push is weakening and raising alarms of a potential trend reversal. The daily Relative Strength Index stands at a neutral 53.8, but on the hourly scale, it drops toward oversold territory around 35, hinting that selling pressure is increasing in the short term.
Ethereum also struggles to reclaim the 200-day EMA near $2,222, which keeps the long-term bullish outlook in question. Intraday fluctuations have averaged about $58 recently, indicating a volatile trading environment without the panic spikes seen during major sell-offs.
In the current climate, a decisive close below $1,850 might unravel the near-term recovery hopes and push Ethereum into a deeper correction phase. With broader market fears elevated and bitcoin dominance rising, altcoins like ETH face an uphill battle to regain lost ground.
