Emirates now accepts payments through Crypto.com Pay™, enabling eligible UAE residents to book flights with digital currency converted to Emirati Dirham. This marks a significant step in Dubai's ambitious plan to achieve 90% cashless transactions by 2026.
The new payment method launched less than a year after Emirates and Crypto.com signed a Memorandum of Understanding in July 2025. The rapid rollout highlights strong cooperation between the airline and regulators eager to foster innovation in financial services.
How Crypto Payments Work for Emirates Customers
Users booking on the Emirates mobile app are redirected to the Crypto.com app to complete their transactions, while desktop users pay by scanning a QR code. All transactions comply with UAE regulations and are settled exclusively in AED, restricting the option to UAE residents only.
Crypto.com’s Dubai-based subsidiary became the first Virtual Asset Service Provider licensed under the UAE’s Stored Value Facilities framework, reinforcing the regulatory framework backing these digital payments. Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, noted the swift integration was driven by organizational commitment and a supportive regulatory environment.
This launch aligns with Dubai’s broader economic transformation, which embraces digital payments across both private and government sectors. It comes amid wider fintech developments in the region, contrasting with areas like AI-driven market predictions where platforms such as Solana have recently seen shifts Solana Faces Mild Drop as AI Predicts Slight Price Dip by August 2026.
