“Younger travelers expect smooth mobile options,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ deputy president and chief commercial officer, highlighting the airline’s new payment feature. Emirates added Crypto.com Pay to its website and app, letting customers in the UAE book flights using their Crypto.com wallet balances. Fares remain priced in Emirati dirhams, and only eligible UAE residents can use this option for now.

The payment flow varies depending on the device. On mobile, selecting Crypto.com Pay redirects users to the Crypto.com app for approval before returning them to Emirates for booking confirmation and e-ticket issuance. Desktop users see a QR code on screen, which they scan with the Crypto.com app to confirm payment. This integration is powered by Crypto.com’s Dubai-based entity, notable for being the first virtual asset service provider licensed for Stored Value Facilities by the UAE Central Bank.

This launch follows a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2025 and aligns with Dubai’s push toward a cashless economy, targeting 90% digital transactions by 2026 under its D33 Economic Agenda. The quick move from agreement to rollout roughly one year is credited to the UAE’s welcoming regulatory environment. This step also places Emirates among a growing list of companies embracing crypto payments to meet evolving consumer expectations, particularly in travel where mobile and digital wallets dominate.

The trend toward crypto payment options is gaining momentum globally. Similar innovations, such as retirement funds exploring XRP ETFs to widen crypto access, show the expanding mainstream adoption of digital assets across sectors.
