A single wallet scooped up 200 million DOGE through Robinhood on July 19, spending roughly $14 million at a price level DOGE has not seen since November 2023. That purchase, combined with Elon Musk liking a Swole Doge meme reply on July 22 (his first Doge-related engagement in months, per Whale Insider), pushed futures volume up 114% to around $740 million. Open interest crossed $1.1 billion the same week. The coin sat near $0.073 at the time, down about 90% from its 2021 peak.
Where the Chart Stands Right Now
The weekly chart is blunt about the damage. DOGE has fully retraced the rally from its December 2024 cycle top at $0.485, landing back at the $0.056 to $0.07 support band that was the base before the previous bull run. That band is now being tested again. At the same time, price is pressing against a descending trendline that has held for 19 months. A weekly close above it would be the first clean break of that line since the cycle turned down.
If buyers hold the support zone and push higher, the first meaningful target is the 0.786 Fibonacci retracement at $0.1476. The golden pocket near $0.2197 is next. Weekly volume keeps contracting, which does not help the bullish case. The TD Sequential indicator has flashed consecutive buy signals on the weekly, a setup that has appeared near major bottoms before across crypto assets, though it carries no guarantee.
Institutional Money Has Not Arrived
The whale activity looks less convincing when set against ETF data. Glassnode figures show US spot Dogecoin ETF inflows peaked near $2.5 million per day in early January, when DOGE was trading around $0.15. Since then, inflows have dried up and turned irregular. Early July brought an outflow of about $871,000, the second largest single outflow in the products' history. Net flows have sat at zero for roughly two weeks. The two funds hold a combined $20 million in assets, barely above launch levels.
So the current bid is coming from leveraged traders and one large anonymous wallet, not from regulated products. Meme coin dominance recently fell to a two-year low as capital rotated toward utility tokens. Binance has seen heavy meme coin selling since Bitcoin's October peak. No wallet data links Musk to the $14 million purchase, and that speculation stays unverified. The connection between his meme like and the whale buy is circumstantial at best.
