Binance extended its dominance across centralized spot markets in Q2 2026, capturing 38.7% of total volume among the top 10 exchanges, according to a CoinGecko report published in July. The figure is notable because it came against a backdrop of broad market weakness: aggregate spot volume across those exchanges fell 27.9% quarter-over-quarter, dropping from $2.70 trillion in Q1 to $1.95 trillion in Q2.

Bybit Climbs, MEXC Takes a Hard Fall

Bybit displaced MEXC to become the second-largest exchange by spot volume, though its own share stood at just 10.0%. MEXC bore the steepest decline of the group, with volume collapsing 56% from $275.2 billion to $121.2 billion, pushing the exchange down to seventh place in the ranking. Monthly data tells a similar story: combined volume across the top 10 dipped to $619 billion in May before recovering to $695 billion in June.

MEXC Hires Bybit's Former Compliance Chief

On July 22, MEXC announced the appointment of Robert Macdonald as its new Chief Compliance Officer. Macdonald served as Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at Bybit from 2024, where he led KYC and AML framework implementation and directed the exchange's global licensing strategy. Before Bybit, he held senior compliance and regulatory roles at both Standard Chartered and Binance.

BNB Chain Expansion Adds Fuel

Binance's position is being reinforced by activity on BNB Chain. Token Terminal data showed that Binance-issued tokenized stocks added more capital over the past month than any other issuer. Through Stove Protocol, additional tokenized Hong Kong equities went live on the chain, which could translate into further trading volume. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez noted on X that centralized exchanges and traditional finance systems are converging, with CEXes expanding into equities, commodities, and tokenized funds while TradFi platforms gradually adopt blockchain infrastructure. Real-world assets are increasingly settling on-chain, a trend that broadens the addressable market for exchanges like Binance well beyond pure crypto trading.

BNB held steady in the hours after the report circulated, with no sharp move in either direction.
