Stablecoin reserves on major exchanges have declined by $12 billion as the crypto market continues its bearish phase, with no clear sign of a rebound in sight. Since the January peak, total crypto market capitalization excluding stablecoins has dropped by $1.11 trillion, intensifying pressure on Bitcoin and altcoins.
Stablecoin Withdrawals Signal Investor Caution
Data from CryptoQuant reveals sustained stablecoin outflows throughout this year, pushing exchange reserves into negative territory. This contrasts with previous years when stablecoin reserves typically remained positive, reflecting capital rotation into risk assets during bull markets.
Over the last 30 days, Binance and Bybit recorded combined stablecoin withdrawals totaling $2.3 billion, with Binance accounting for $1.55 billion and Bybit $786 million. These two exchanges hold the largest share of stablecoin reserves, at 68.39% and 6.49% respectively, according to CryptoQuant. Their withdrawals indicate that investors are not yet accumulating stablecoins to deploy into risk assets.
Supporting this trend, DeFiLlama data shows the stablecoin market cap peaked at $322.419 billion in April but has since decreased by approximately $12.355 billion. The market lost another $1.167 billion just in the past week, underscoring persistent investor skepticism.
Bitcoin exemplifies the market struggle, failing to reclaim the $64,500 resistance level over the last 49 days as selling pressure mounts following a sharp decline. Without renewed stablecoin inflows signaling a rotation to risk assets, the crypto market’s downtrend is expected to persist.
Broader market sentiment remains cautious. The recent relief rally came after a softer-than-expected U.S. consumer price index reading, suggesting easing inflation, yet geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to weigh on investor confidence. Meanwhile, the U.S. M2 money supply hit new highs at $22.8 trillion, but little of this liquidity has flowed into crypto risk assets.
