Unserious has acquired Creepz, the lizard-themed NFT collection that became one of the defining brands of the 2021-22 cycle, with entrepreneur and investor Adam Weitsman backing the deal. The original founders supported the transaction, handing the IP to a team that combines consumer brand experience, entertainment, and a history in crypto's largest token launches, including ApeCoin.

The headline element of the acquisition is the return of Psychrome, the original creative mind behind the Creepz universe. He will lead IP development going forward. Beyond his work on Creepz, Psychrome is a globally exhibited artist with commercial collaborations across Nike, Salomon, Sneaker Con, Staple, Disney, Warner Bros., and Rovio, a resume that signals the direction Unserious intends to take the brand.

What the New Team Brings

Unserious describes itself as focused on decentralized brands. The team's operating background spans consumer products, entertainment, and enterprise tech. The ApeCoin launch, one of the most closely watched NFT-adjacent token events in recent memory, sits on that track record. Weitsman's backing adds financial weight to a project that is betting on the longevity of a collection many considered a relic of a previous market phase.

Creepz built a cult following during the last NFT boom on the strength of its lore-heavy world-building and distinct visual identity. Whether that brand equity translates into the current market is the central question. Unserious did take a moment to formally deny that lizard people exist, that they conduct evil activities, or that a $CREEPZ world domination plan is in motion.
