Ryan VanGrack, Coinbase’s newly appointed Vice President since July 9, 2026, declared that the era of crypto regulatory warfare has come to an end. Instead of clashing with regulators in courtrooms, Coinbase now aims to prioritize innovation and expansion within the digital asset space.
VanGrack highlighted the progress of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, or CLARITY Act, which is rapidly gaining support. The legislation proposes clear federal guidelines to define the oversight roles between the SEC and the CFTC, which should bring much-needed certainty to the industry. According to VanGrack, these rules are critical to safeguarding investors while solidifying the US as a leader in the global crypto market.
From Legal Battles to Strategic Growth
Under Paul Grewal, Coinbase’s former Chief Legal Officer, the company endured intense legal pressure. The SEC’s 2023 lawsuit accusing Coinbase of offering unregistered securities was a major conflict, eventually dismissed. VanGrack’s background at Citadel Securities and his experience as an SEC official give him a unique edge. He is steering Coinbase toward becoming more than just a crypto exchange, eyeing new financial products like stock trading, futures, and AI-driven tools.
The bipartisan momentum behind the CLARITY Act is a sign the US legislature has moved past questioning crypto’s legitimacy and now focuses on regulation frameworks. Still, the bill isn’t finalized VanGrack’s football analogy suggests the team is close to scoring but the game isn’t over yet.
