BlackRock has kicked off a massive $12.3 billion bond offering to finance the construction of Meta’s new AI data center in El Paso, Texas. The bonds, set to mature in 2048, are designed to fund a facility with a 1-gigawatt capacity dedicated to handling intensive AI computing tasks.

Funding the Future of AI Infrastructure

This move highlights the growing demand for specialized data centers built to support artificial intelligence workloads, which require enormous power and cooling capabilities. Meta’s El Paso site is expected to play a critical role in the company’s AI ambitions by providing scalable infrastructure capable of processing complex machine learning models.

BlackRock’s bond sale is one of the largest in recent times focused specifically on AI infrastructure. It reflects investor appetite for long-term projects tied to emerging technologies, underlining the financial sector’s increasing interest in AI-driven growth sectors. The offering also follows broader trends seen in the tech and crypto markets, such as institutional investments in Bitcoin-related assets backed by BlackRock, signaling diverse engagement with future technologies.
