BitSpider has taken a significant step by submitting its application to become an authorized crypto-asset service provider under the MiCA regulations in Estonia. This move highlights the company’s unique Crypto POS platform, designed to offer a more traditional payment experience using a tap-and-PIN process, not just QR code scanning.
Innovative Crypto Payment Approach
The BitSpider Crypto POS system supports two distinct payment options in one device. Customers can either scan a QR code from their self-custody wallets or tap a dedicated BitSpider NFC card, enter a PIN, select the cryptocurrency, and confirm the transaction all without needing a smartphone or wallet app. This card-and-PIN functionality works across multiple blockchains and stablecoins, setting it apart from most tap-to-pay crypto cards that were primarily Bitcoin-only when BitSpider first developed the concept in 2024. other providers introduced similar tap-and-PIN crypto card products only in 2025.
Built on Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible networks, the system combines hardware a terminal with a receipt printer, 2D scanner, and contactless payment capabilities with a cloud-based merchant management app that controls goods, services, orders, devices, and employee permissions. It processes Bitcoin, Ethereum, various stablecoins, and ERC-20 or TRC-20 tokens. The platform follows PCI DSS standards for payment data and complies with anti-money laundering and know-your-customer rules aligned with counter-terror financing laws. Merchants accepting crypto payments can receive fiat currency deposits into their bank accounts through partner settlement arrangements.
The application to the Estonian Financial Supervision Authority was officially filed on June 30, 2026, and registered on July 1. Since then, BitSpider has paused onboarding new clients pending the regulatory outcome. Should authorization be granted, the company plans to reenter the point-of-sale space, initially focusing on its non-custodial wallet-based payments. Any further card-based offerings would require additional regulatory approval and remain strictly within the crypto-assets scope.
BitSpider’s early innovation in tap-and-PIN crypto payments comes ahead of many market entrants, showcasing its forward-thinking approach to bridging crypto and traditional card payments.
