Negotiations between Arsenal and Hamburger SV for the permanent transfer of Fabio Vieira are ongoing, with both clubs stuck on price. HSV has offered around €10 million, while Arsenal insists on more than double that amount, above €20 million, reflecting a wide financial gap that stalls progress.
The Portuguese midfielder's journey has taken interesting turns since Arsenal paid close to €40 million from FC Porto in 2022. Underwhelming performances in the Premier League led to a loan to HSV in Germany’s second division, where Vieira revived his form by becoming the club’s top scorer with 7 goals last season.
HSV's formal offer is much lower than the approximately €20-22 million purchase option included in Vieira's loan contract, which has since expired. Arsenal seems unwilling to accept HSV's bargain figure given their initial hefty investment and a competing offer from Nottingham Forest, rumored to be around €28 million last June.
According to sources close to the talks, Vieira prefers a permanent move to Hamburg, likely influenced by his exclusion from Portugal’s recent World Cup squad. This player preference adds pressure on Arsenal, but the Gunners remain firm on not lowering their valuation just yet.
