Apple unveiled a fresh lineup of smart home gadgets at WWDC26, anchored by a revamped Siri AI meant to connect devices across the house. The new Siri, introduced on June 8, brings enhanced conversational skills, awareness of personal context, and better integration with on-screen content. This upgrade aims to make Siri the central control hub for Apple’s growing smart home ecosystem.
The announcement includes a 7-inch Home Hub with facial recognition, an updated Apple TV 4K, and improved HomePods, all slated for release in fall 2026. Rumors suggest the Home Hub will retail around $350. The company is migrating fully from its older HomeKit framework to the Matter protocol, ensuring that Apple devices can smoothly communicate with products from other brands. Support for the original HomeKit ended earlier this year, highlighting a clear push for interoperability.
This fall’s iOS 27 update will also roll out major improvements to HomeKit Secure Video, adding 4K video and AI-powered summaries to enhance home security features.
Not a Word on Crypto
In a notable absence, Apple’s entire WWDC26 event did not include any mention of cryptocurrency, blockchain, or NFTs. This omission aligns with Apple’s long-standing caution around crypto-related apps, as their App Store policies impose steep 30% fees on digital asset purchases and have previously restricted wallets and NFT marketplaces.
While other tech giants like Meta pour massive resources into AI, Apple appears to be prioritizing physical devices and AI integration within the home instead of chasing blockchain trends. Investors tracking where Big Tech allocates capital may read this as a sign that crypto remains off Apple’s radar for now.
On the market side, shares of Apple remained steady following the announcements, with minimal immediate impact.
