David Schwartz, the former CTO of Ripple, expressed regret over selling his XRP tokens at $0.10 and Ethereum around $1, citing his strong aversion to risk as the main driver behind those decisions rather than a loss of confidence in crypto.

Schwartz explained that his sales strategy was part of an agreement with his wife to reduce exposure whenever his holdings reached new all-time highs. "I really, really hate risk," he said, adding, "I wish I was more comfortable with risk, but I'm just not that person."

Risk Aversion and Crypto Holdings

Despite once holding a significant amount of XRP about 26 million tokens at his peak Schwartz has since largely moved away from cryptocurrency investments. In April, he disclosed that most of his remaining crypto assets, excluding Ripple stock, had been sold. He cited a preference for lower volatility over the possibility of future gains in crypto markets.

He acknowledged that this approach might cause him to miss potentially historic returns. "I fully recognize that crypto may be a once-in-a-generation chance to get rich that we have not missed yet and that may mean that I miss a lot of it," Schwartz said.

Regarding the early sale of Ethereum, Schwartz previously noted that he based his decision on probability rather than disbelief. "If I had thought there was a 1% chance of it hitting $2,368, I would not have sold it for $1.05," he stated.

Schwartz's early investment journey involved transitioning into XRP and Ethereum after selling Bitcoin. The choice to reduce crypto exposure reflected his personal risk tolerance rather than a negative outlook on blockchain technology.
