Following a challenging two-month streak, Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have started to attract cash again, signaling a shift in investor dynamics. Net inflows reached about $105 million during the week of July 13 to 17, marking the largest weekly inflow since April and the second consecutive week of positive creations after eight weeks of net redemptions.
Recent ETF Inflow Trends and Market Behavior
Ethereum ETFs pulled in around $84 million during the prior week, according to flow tracking sources quoted by multiple news outlets. This pattern differs markedly from the previous downward trend where investors were steadily withdrawing assets from ETH exposure through late spring and early summer. Despite these encouraging inflow figures, the market response remains cautious, as the pace of new money entering the ETH ETF space is moderate rather than overwhelming.
Dominant Role of BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust
BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) is driving much of the recent inflows. Reports indicate that ETHA comprised the majority of daily inflows, including a day when the entire Ethereum ETF segment attracted about $53.8 million, with ETHA contributing the lion’s share. This concentration shows ETHA’s status as the preferred vehicle for institutional investors seeking Ether exposure without the challenges of custody and operational management.
However, this reliance also means that the overall recovery in Ethereum ETF assets is fragile. If ETHA's inflows weaken, the broader ETF market could swiftly revert to net outflows, highlighting the precariousness of the current resurgence.
Price Movements and Technical Outlook
Throughout the inflow period, Ethereum traded in the mid-$1,800s range, with spot prices generally between $1,845 and $1,850. Analysts emphasize the importance of holding the $1,800 area as a critical demand zone, while resistance levels appear near the 100-day exponential moving average, roughly at $1,938. On July 21, Ethereum pushed above $1,900, with technical indicators showing a series of higher highs and higher lows, implying short-term bullish momentum.
The direct link between ETF creations and spot Ether holdings is vital for investors, as new shares require acquiring and holding actual ETH tokens, creating consistent buying pressure. Still, the recent inflows, while positive, remain relatively modest and leave room for volatility ahead.
