Almost 93% of crypto tokens released since 2024 now trade below their initial token generation event (TGE) price, revealing the steep challenges faced by new projects in maintaining early valuation levels.
Market Performance of Recent Token Launches
A recent analysis by CryptoRank examined 113 crypto projects launched between 2024 and 2026 with market caps above $100 million. It found that only 8 projects remain trading above their TGE price while the remaining 105 have experienced declines. This means merely 7.1% of major token launches continue to be profitable.
The median return across these projects stands at a significant negative 95.7%, underscoring the widespread drawdowns experienced by most recent tokens.
Top Performing Tokens and Market Shifts
Among the handful of outliers, Hyperliquid (HYPE) led gains with a remarkable 1,519% increase over its TGE price. Other notable performers include Ondo Finance (ONDO) at 101.4%, EverValue Coin (EVA) at 20.32%, and Midnight Network (NIGHT) at 16.50%.
The data signals a shift in investor behavior, showing a move away from broad speculative rallies seen in prior cycles. Capital increasingly flows to projects demonstrating real product adoption, ecosystem growth, or strong market demand. This trend is pushing investors to evaluate tokenomics, circulating supply, unlock schedules, and long-term utility over initial launch hype.
Implications for Future Crypto Projects
High fully diluted valuations, constrained circulating supply at launch, and large scheduled token unlocks have attracted investor scrutiny. Such factors can depress prices as more tokens enter the market post-launch. Consequently, developers and investors may prioritize sustainable token distribution strategies and ecosystem development over aggressive early valuations.
These findings provide insight into how new crypto projects might adjust launch approaches amid tighter market conditions and increased demand for transparency.
