Google has registered two new AI model identifiers, Gemini 3.6 Flash and Gemini 3.5 Flash Lite, within its development tools as of July 21, 2026. These internal IDs suggest the models are nearing readiness for external access through Google’s AI Studio and Vertex API.
The gemini-3.6-flash-tiered model ID indicates a possible tiered pricing system with multiple access levels, potentially offering differentiated rates for free and paid usage. Currently, the existing Gemini 3.5 Flash model charges about $1.50 per million input tokens and $9 per million output tokens, supporting a context window of one million tokens.
Neither of the new models has been publicly announced or documented by Google yet. Their appearance aligns with a pattern of releasing Flash-tier models as interim products during delays of more advanced variants. Google’s flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro model, aimed at competing with top offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic, continues to face postponements.
Alphabet’s ongoing investment in AI infrastructure is marked by this move, signaling a continued push to expand the Gemini model lineup despite flagship delays. Introducing a Flash Lite version could lower costs below current rates, potentially challenging competitors with premium pricing for similar performance.
