Aztec Network has deployed its Alpha V5 update on Ethereum mainnet, cutting private transaction proving times in half to approximately 2.5 seconds per transaction on consumer laptops. The upgrade also reduces transaction fees below $0.05, marking a 50% cost drop compared to the previous V4 version.
Performance Improvements and Security Testing
Alpha V5 is designed to generate cryptographic proofs locally on user devices, enhancing privacy by avoiding server-side exposure. Aztec claims this release addresses critical issues found in V4, supported by security reviews from over 234 researchers participating in the Cantina bug bounty program.
These improvements follow earlier trials on Aztec's alpha network and public testnet, transitioning performance gains to the live Ethereum environment.
Application Rollout and Ecosystem Growth
The first live app compatible with Alpha V5 is Nyx, a wallet enabling private Ethereum transfers and private yield farming on Aave. Nyx is opening access to all users for 24 hours, departing from its usual invite-only model. Aztec anticipates launching additional applications shortly, although no specific timelines or app identities have been disclosed.
- Transaction proving time: ~2.5 seconds, down 50% from V4
- Transaction fees: under $0.05, 50% cheaper than previous version
- Security reviews conducted by 234+ researchers
- Nyx wallet offers private transfers and yield on Aave
Aztec has not yet released independently audited benchmarks to verify the proving time and fee claims. The company's development aligns with ongoing Layer 2 advancements aimed at improving Ethereum's scalability and privacy features.
