American Bitcoin added nearly a thousand coins to its vault in the second quarter, pushing its holdings to 8,002 BTC. Yet the stock tanked 7.38% in a single day and has shed more than four-fifths of its value since January. The disconnect between what the company is doing operationally and what investors are willing to pay for it tells the real story.
The company mined 932 BTC in Q2, a record, while expanding its strategic reserve by 981 coins from 7,021 at the end of March. Mining revenue climbed to $67 million, up 8% from $62.1 million in the prior quarter, even as Bitcoin's price dropped 12%. The operation maintained a gross margin hovering near 50%, a feat that would impress most traditional miners.
CEO Mike Ho framed it as execution under pressure. Energy costs stayed flat at roughly $36,500 per Bitcoin, barely budging from the previous quarter's $36,200. The company added 11,298 next-generation ASIC miners to Hut 8's Drumheller facility, bringing total capacity to 28.1 EH/s, with 25 EH/s actually hashing at an average efficiency of 14.1 joules per terahash.
Shareholders got richer on paper, but the market isn't buying it
Here's where the narrative gets interesting. Even though outstanding shares only increased about 3%, each share now represents more Bitcoin. Satoshis per share jumped from 9,943 to 10,989, meaning holders got better exposure to the company's coin stack without massive dilution. That's exactly what a Bitcoin-focused company should be doing.
Yet the stock collapsed. According to Bloomberg, American Bitcoin lost roughly $600 million in market value recently. The 80% year-to-date decline suggests investors are either terrified of the sector or simply don't trust the growth narrative Eric Trump's company is pushing. Mining fundamentals look solid. The capital allocation looks disciplined. Something else is spooking the market.
