About 79% of large financial institutions reported in a June 2026 Bitwise chart have connections with Ripple or XRP, highlighting growing interest in XRP Ledger as a settlement network for tokenized assets rather than trading.
Significant players like BNY Mellon, JPMorgan, and Mastercard feature prominently in this narrative. BNY Mellon, with $53 trillion in assets under management, became the primary custodian for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin in July 2025 and also manages the Bitwise XRP ETF alongside other spot crypto ETFs.
A 2026 pilot involving Ripple, JPMorgan, Mastercard, and Ondo Finance tested redemption of tokenized US Treasuries using XRP Ledger and traditional bank payment rails, positioning the ledger as a neutral settlement fabric for tokenized funds and bank money. Trades involving Mastercard, JPMorgan, and Ondo Finance reportedly settle on the XRP Ledger, while the RLUSD stablecoin has reached a market capitalization of $1.6 billion, with its infrastructure and exchange availability largely established.
Upcoming upgrades to the XRP Ledger include batch transactions, confidential transfers, sponsored fees, permission delegation, and dynamic multi-purpose tokens. These enhancements aim to support institutions managing tokenized deposits, funds, and real-world assets by enhancing privacy and control features.
