Webull Corporation saw its shares rise by 1.10%, closing at $7.38 despite a subsequent dip to $7.30 during pre-market trading. This increase follows the company receiving significant regulatory approval under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework from the Dutch financial authority, allowing Webull to broaden its digital asset services across Europe.
The MiCA approval represents a crucial step for Webull as it prepares to launch crypto trading and custody services in late 2026. This move aligns with the company's strategy to strengthen its foothold in the evolving European crypto market, where it initially established its presence through the Netherlands in 2025.
The approval comes in the wake of the grandfathering period that ended on July 1, which allowed firms with national Crypto Asset Service Provider registrations to transition under the new unified MiCA regulations. This new framework aims to streamline licensing processes, replacing various national systems with standardized regulations. Currently, around 200 licensed firms operate under this new regime, although not all companies successfully transitioned before the deadline; for instance, Binance did not secure necessary approvals in Greece.
Webull's expansion into Europe coincides with its ongoing growth in the global brokerage sector. The company reported a significant revenue increase in the first quarter of 2026, generating $159.9 million, which reflects a 36% rise year-over-year. This growth was attributed to higher client assets and increased trading activity, despite a net loss during the same period due to escalated costs from expansion efforts.
The MiCA framework is reshaping the European crypto landscape, positioning firms like Webull to operate under a consistent regulatory environment. As the market adapts to these new regulations, challenges and opportunities will continue to emerge for companies aiming to establish and expand their crypto services.
