Three men in the UK have been imprisoned for defrauding victims of £4 million, equivalent to $5.4 million, in a cryptocurrency scam involving fake police impersonation.
The group created fraudulent police websites and posed as law enforcement officers to convince eight individuals their crypto assets were at risk. The victims were instructed to transfer their holdings to the scammers’ control.
London's Metropolitan Police led the extensive investigation that uncovered the scheme, which exploited trust in official authorities to steal substantial digital currency funds.
