Tokenized equities blew past $2 billion in market value this year. The asset class nearly tripled from $814 million at the start of 2026, marking a 140% surge that caught the attention of independent researchers at DeFiLlama. The growth isn't just about bigger numbers, though. What matters now is how smoothly traders can actually buy and sell these digital stock tokens.

Bitget emerged as the liquidity leader in DeFiLlama's benchmark of tokenized equity platforms. The exchange recorded a 0.83 basis point median bid-ask spread, the tightest among venues tested. In a wider test of 36 stock perpetuals plus eight commodity contracts, Bitget dominated 32 out of 34 positions across multiple depth measurements. Gracy Chen, Bitget's CEO, put it plainly: "A tokenized stock is only as good as the market behind it." She's right. Investors won't touch an asset they can't trade efficiently, no matter how clever the tokenization wrapper is.

Where the real action is

DeFiLlama's report dug into the operational side too, examining how platforms handle everything from brokerage connections to dividend payouts and settlement mechanics. The research shows that as tokenized stock infrastructure matures, pure execution quality is becoming a hard competitive edge. You can't fake liquidity or hide a 5 basis point spread.

Inside Bitget's own Reality rTokens, traders moved $1.16 billion between June and July alone. Semiconductor and tech stocks dominated that volume, which tracks with broader investor appetite for exposure to innovation-heavy companies without traditional custody friction. The tokenized stock space got another boost when Dinari secured FINRA approval, opening doors to American retail traders who'd been locked out before.

The research suggests the market is shifting past the novelty phase. Early adopters cared about access. Now that tokenized stocks actually exist and trade, liquidity and execution speed are what separates winners from also-rans. Platforms that can't match Bitget's spread and depth will struggle to attract serious trading volume.
