Bancastato clients in the Ticino region can now trade bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, and solana directly within their existing online banking apps. This move eliminates the need to open separate exchange accounts or juggle multiple platforms.
The Zurich-based Sygnum Bank powers this integration by linking its regulated crypto services via API into Bancastato’s Avaloq banking system. Customers place market orders by specifying either the cryptocurrency amount or its dollar value, while Sygnum executes trades behind the scenes. Bancastato keeps the client relationship and user interface, making the experience feel like just another investment option within familiar banking channels.
Streamlining Crypto Access Across Swiss Banks
This approach tackles a longstanding hurdle in crypto adoption the friction of onboarding to separate services. By embedding crypto trading into everyday banking, Bancastato becomes the first bank using Avaloq's SaaS platform to offer the feature powered by a third-party provider. It also highlights the growing trend of banks outsourcing complex infrastructure to specialized firms to speed deployment and ensure regulatory compliance.
Sygnum currently supports over 25 Swiss banks, collectively serving more than 2.5 million accounts by mid-2026. Bancastato’s collaboration hints at wider crypto integration possibilities within Switzerland’s banking sector. As more institutions adopt similar models, the line between traditional finance and digital assets continues to blur.
