On July 20, 2026, Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko outlined a long-term roadmap aimed at significantly increasing the network's decentralization.
Yakovenko compared the blockchain's development stages to the 12-year span between the American Revolution and the U.S. Constitution, emphasizing that reaching the Nakamoto milestone will require several years.
Currently, Solana is deploying the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which integrates AI capabilities directly with the blockchain. This allows AI agents to analyze the network and manage wallets natively.
Despite the AI rollout, Yakovenko's focus is on raising the Nakamoto coefficient, a measure of how many validators must be controlled to block or censor the blockchain.
Solana's current Nakamoto coefficient is about 20, limited by data center concentration and geographic clustering of stake validators.
The new architecture aims to distribute consensus power beyond top validation firms, making the network physically resistant to external pressure.
Solana has already tackled speed and outage issues with its Firedancer client, which reached over one million transactions per second in tests and introduced diverse client software to reduce single points of failure.
However, speed alone is insufficient if the network remains vulnerable to censorship.
