SBI Holdings values its Ripple stake at about 6.6 trillion yen, or $45 billion, even as XRP's price shows little movement. The company ties this stagnation to the pending outcome of the US CLARITY Act, a key piece of legislation that remains undecided.
Confidence Persists Despite XRP Price Doldrums
During its first-quarter earnings call, SBI’s Director Yasuo Nishikawa highlighted how XRP appears to be holding back, seemingly awaiting clarity from US lawmakers. Despite the lull, SBI's Ripple holdings maintain substantial worth, signaling the Japanese financial giant’s unwavering belief in Ripple's future.
Strong Earnings Back SBI's Long-Term Crypto Vision
The firm reported record profits for the quarter, with shareholder earnings soaring to 148.1 billion yen, nearly two and a half times the previous year. SBI’s private equity arm, which includes Ripple investments, saw profits jump 328% to 119.9 billion yen, driven by ventures in blockchain, AI, semiconductors, and quantum computing. While the crypto division faced a modest 1.4 billion yen pretax loss amid sluggish market conditions, its global crypto market-making arm, B2C2, stayed profitable.
SBI is banking on a market rebound. Its recent moves involve launching support and lending for the Japanese stablecoin JPYS and expanding partnerships, positioning the company to capitalize once the crypto sector gains momentum again. This steady approach contrasts with the volatility many crypto firms face, emphasizing SBI’s strategic patience amid regulatory uncertainty.
