Sablier Labs announced on July 13, 2026, that it has halted development of its token-streaming protocol and will enter maintenance mode until June 2028. This decision follows a disappointing first quarter and competition from AI-driven alternatives that undermined the company's growth potential.

Operational Continuity Amid Development Pause

Despite the halt in active development, existing users of Sablier's protocol will not face immediate disruptions. Active streams, vesting plans, and airdrop claims will continue to operate as the underlying contracts are non-custodial and permissionless. Paul Razvan Berg, co-founder and CEO, emphasized in a blog post that current users can rest assured their tokens are secure and continue to function normally.

However, the platform will no longer support the creation of new vesting streams or airdrops beyond June 2028. The Sablier Interface has also discontinued the ability to facilitate open-ended payment streams.

Insights from Leadership

Berg expressed candidly that the decision to halt development stems from an inability to envision a sustainable path to a venture-scaled business after the company's recent struggles. He noted that Sablier was a pioneer in on-chain money streaming, allowing for continuous token transfers instead of lump-sum payments.

In a strategic move, Sablier Labs has open-sourced its core code under the GPL license, enabling anyone to fork and redeploy the project ahead of its initial plan. This transparency is expected to empower developers within the crypto community to innovate further using the foundational technology.
