Ripple has announced its membership in the Linux Foundation's x402 Foundation, positioning itself prominently within the growing AI payment landscape. 'Joining forces with industry leaders like AWS, Visa, and Microsoft allows Ripple to further advance its vision for autonomous payment systems,' said a Ripple spokesperson.
This collaboration focuses on developing a new open payment standard aimed at facilitating machine-to-machine transactions, essential as AI agents increasingly handle diverse tasks autonomously. The XRP Ledger is viewed as a crucial infrastructure for these future applications, enabling smooth payment solutions for AI-driven operations.
Ripple has already equipped AI agents on the XRP Ledger to transact using both XRP and RLUSD via the x402 protocol. This capability supports instantaneous, internet-scale payments that reflect the demands of an evolving digital economy. With nearly 1 million transactions processed through a recent facilitator, evidence of real-world applicability for autonomous payments is tangible.
Additionally, AI agents are utilizing non-custodial wallets funded by XRP and RLUSD, allowing independent transactions for cloud services and subscriptions without traditional reliance on banks. As such developments unfold, the XRP Ledger is increasingly seen as a foundational network for the emerging machine economy, streamlining autonomous financial transactions.
