Nous Research, a startup specializing in AI agents, has successfully raised $75 million in a Series B funding round led by Robot Ventures, a prominent venture capital firm known for its focus on crypto projects. This funding round values the company at a notable $1.5 billion, demonstrating a rapid growth trajectory since its inception in 2023.
Just three months prior, Nous had closed a $50 million Series A round, marking a swift accumulation of funds. With this latest injection, the startup has nearly tripled its total funding, now exceeding $145 million. Union Square Ventures also participated in this round, indicating strong interest from established venture capital players.
About Nous Research and Its Product
The company’s flagship product, Hermes, is an open-source platform for building and deploying AI agents. Unlike many projects that integrate cryptocurrency elements, Hermes focuses purely on AI technology, lacking any token or governance protocol. This approach allows developers to utilize the platform freely to create their own applications.
The backing for Nous Research includes high-profile investors such as Paradigm, North Island Ventures, OSS Capital, and angel investor Balaji Srinivasan, all of whom have previously invested in the firm. This diverse group of backers reflects the increasing interest in AI technologies that can potentially reshape various sectors.
Implications for the Crypto Market
Interest in AI-related projects has begun impacting the crypto market, seen through platforms like Virtuals Protocol and ai16z. However, Nous Research represents a shift in focus; while other projects prioritize crypto, Nous’s AI-first model suggests that integration with crypto may follow as the technology matures. This could signify a new trend in investment strategies where AI development leads the way before any crypto elements are introduced.
The deal is reportedly close to finalization, although official confirmations from Nous Research and its investors are still pending. The founding team, which includes Jeffrey Quesnelle, Karan Malhotra, Ryan Teknium, and Shivani Mitra, has shown remarkable capability in enhancing enterprise value in a compressed timeframe.
