HashKey Exchange just secured approval from JPMorgan to open a client money account, a critical upgrade in protecting users’ assets. This move reinforces the crypto platform’s growing ties with established financial institutions.

Why a Client Money Account Matters

A client money account separates customer funds from the exchange’s own capital. This structure prevents user deposits from being used to cover operational costs or company debts, a protection missing in the notorious FTX collapse. In simple terms, if HashKey faces financial trouble, funds in this JPMorgan account remain insulated and secure.

HashKey has been steadily expanding its banking partnerships throughout 2026. Just last month, it activated a similar client funds account with DBS Bank to enhance fiat processing. Deutsche Bank already supports both operational and client accounts for HashKey, and now JPMorgan joins as a top-tier banking partner.

JPMorgan's confidence runs deeper than banking services. Earlier this year, the bank upgraded its rating on HashKey’s stock to Overweight, highlighting the platform’s solid business model. Plus, JPMorgan is co-sponsoring HashKey’s upcoming Hong Kong IPO, targeting a raise of around $215 million. The IPO process has been progressing since late 2025.

With over 75% market share of licensed crypto trading in Hong Kong, HashKey dominates the region’s regulated digital asset space. Hong Kong’s strict regulatory regime has encouraged institutional-grade compliance, and HashKey’s cooperation has helped it gain the trust of major banks like JPMorgan.

This development is a notable signal for investors watching institutional adoption of crypto in Asia’s markets. HashKey’s increasing bank partnerships could translate to more stability and trust for its users. In comparison, many exchanges still struggle to secure similar banking relationships, underscoring HashKey’s unique position.
