Galaxy Digital will rename Texas Tech University’s football stadium to Galaxy Stadium starting with the 2026 season, following a 15-year agreement announced on July 17. The first game at Galaxy Stadium is scheduled for September 5, 2026, when Texas Tech faces Abilene Christian.

The contract designates Galaxy Digital as the official digital assets and data center partner for Texas Tech Athletics. Beyond stadium naming rights, the collaboration covers initiatives in artificial intelligence, workforce training, and leveraging student-athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities. Further specifics about these programs and financial terms have not been made public.

Galaxy Digital’s Operations in Texas

Galaxy already maintains a significant presence in West Texas through its Helios data center campus located in Dickens County, approximately 60 miles east of Lubbock. This facility has received approval for 1.6 gigawatts of capacity dedicated to AI and high-performance computing workloads. The stadium partnership aligns the company’s infrastructure efforts with a prominent regional sports institution.

Texas Emerges as a Crypto Industry Hub

Texas has attracted numerous cryptocurrency and digital infrastructure firms, including Riot Platforms, Cipher Mining, Core Scientific, CleanSpark, IREN, and Hut 8. In 2026, mining hardware company Canaan acquired a 49% stake in three Texas mining sites from Cipher Mining for nearly $40 million. also MARA Holdings announced plans to develop a two-gigawatt campus in Texas to support Bitcoin mining and computing.

The state government also supports crypto development. Governor Greg Abbott signed legislation establishing the Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve last year. As of May, the reserve is shifting from a spot Bitcoin ETF strategy toward direct Bitcoin holdings. Crypto-affiliated political action committees have invested over $10 million in Texas congressional primary runoffs this year, endorsing winning candidates.
