In a groundbreaking event, Russia has held its inaugural robot wedding at the Pushkin Library in Moscow, showcasing humanoid robots Robert and Matilda. The ceremony, which featured AI-generated vows, was symbolic and legally meaningless, designed to highlight advancements in humanoid robotics.

Organized by the Russian company IT-Imperial, the event coincided with the country's Family, Love and Fidelity Day and quickly gained traction on social media. According to Anna Bagdasaryan, Deputy CEO of IT-Imperial, the primary aim was to engage the public with technology and demonstrate the capabilities of humanoid machines.

The two robots were built on open platforms, which allows users to create their own behavioral algorithms. Robert was designed to resemble both an office worker and a blogger, while Matilda danced gracefully, dressed as a ballerina. They exchanged wedding bracelets, symbolizing rings, during the event, which also saw a robot dog named Dogmatik carrying them onto the stage.

Prior to this library debut, Robert and Matilda appeared at the 2026 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. As part of the event, IT-Imperial donated several books on robotics and automation to the Pushkin Library.

Images and videos from the wedding ceremony went viral, showcasing the robots in playful interaction with attendees. While the event was intended as a demonstration, it sparked discussions about the future of coexistence between humans and machines as robotics become more prevalent in various sectors, including education and entertainment.
